On a Cat.com page that covers the *Rated Operating Capacity
new D3 Series skid steer loaders (SSL)
and compact tracked loaders (CTL), a
headline reads, “Often imitated. Never
out-innovated.” And that’s exactly what
these 16 new models bring to the table.
Normally with new product introductions, we
describe the purpose, features and thinking behind
the equipment. However, after talking with Tom
McCubbin, and learning about his in-depth knowledge,
we thought we’d let the Caterpillar SSL and CTL
Product Application Specialist do the talking.
According to Tom, “The new D3 Series is a
completely new world. Everything we did with the
D3 Series was focused on customer feedback
and creating machines that are far better,
smoother, more efficient and comfortable.” n

SMART TOOLS
“These machines have three smart tools; a
backhoe, a grader blade and a dozer blade. We
are the first to market with these and the smart
tools are highly integrated with each machine.
“Traditionally, when tools like these are used on an
SSL or a CTL, the joystick controls remain configured
for that particular machine. So, an operator’s left hand
moves the machine and the right hand controls tools.
But with our smart attachments, as soon as the tool’s
electrical connector is plugged in, the advanced display
recognizes that specific tool. Then, operators need
